The Thiruvathirai festival is celebrated as the Arudra Darshanam festival on the full moon day of the month of Markazhi, on the day when the Thiruvathirai star gathers.
The word Arutra is called "Aadirai" in Tamil.They also celebrate the title "Thiruvathirai" with the nickname "Mr.{thiru}"
The star called Thiruvathirai in Tamil is called Arthra in the northern language.This is what is called Arudra.

At one time, a woman named Thirodayuka was an ardent devotee of Goddess Parvati. Married to Thirodayuka. At that time, the Shanti Mukurtham would take place on the fourth day of the marriage.
But on the third day of the marriage, Thirodayuka's husband died. Thirodayuka screamed and cried, "Goddess Parvati, can your devotee test me like this, what is the use of worshiping you for so long?"
Parvati, who was then sitting near Lord Shiva in the temple, heard the cry of Thirodayuka and vowed to beg her husband for life. Shiva, trembling at hearing her vow, immediately took a look at the emolog. Seeing this, Eman resurrected the husband of Tredoyuka.
After that Parvati and Lord Shiva gave a vision to Thirodayuka and her husband and blessed them. The event took place on a star-studded day of Thiruvathirai in the month of Markazhi. This darshan came to be known as Arudra darshan.
Arudra Darshan is celebrated as the star of Lord Shiva on the day of the Thiruvathira star day when he appeared in person to Chendana and Thirodayuka.
